Uruguay is home to a large variety of nature reserves and protected areas, which makes it the perfect destination for visitors wishing to connect with nature. Uruguay has 15 areas integrated into the National System of Protected Areas throughout the national territory. The (SNAP) of Uruguay has become a fundamental tool to reconcile the care of the environment, in particular the diversity of landscapes, ecosystems, species and cultural elements with the economic and social development of the country, betting on generating opportunities for local communities and society as a whole through recreation, tourism, education, research and the development of productive activities compatible with nature conservation.

Laguna Garzón ...
Laguna Garzón is located on the border of the departments of Rocha and Maldonado. The protected area is rich in biodiversity, it covers 9,596 hectares of land surface, and 27,332 hectares of marine surface. Like Laguna Rocha, Laguna Garzón communicates with the Atlantic Ocean through a sand bar that opens periodically. This process is of great biological richness as it is the breeding ground for an important number of animal species, and for native and migratory birds too. The landscape around the lagoon is made up of hills, low plains, coastal strip and a portion of the coastal shelf.
Laguna José Ignacio ...
Laguna José Ignacio is a small lagoon located just minutes from José Ignacio. The lagoon has an extension of 8 km at its widest part. It receives the José Ignacio, the Colina, and the Magdalena Sosa stream. It forms a sandbar towards the Atlantic Ocean. Laguna José Ignacio is an interesting spot for bird and nature watching, it is possible to observe here the southern flamingo, black-necked swan, and various other species of native and migratory birds.

Located in the Department of Rocha, Cabo Polonio is a real wild wide paradise for Sea Lions and for other marine species. Due to the beauty of its wild beaches, dunes, and the originality of its housing, Cabo Polonio is one of the most visited resorts by the one's who wish to get in touch with nature, or just need to be in a relaxing remote. One of the particularities of the site, is that most of its housing units do not have electricity or running water. Therefore, the rhythm of its residents and visitors is mainly set by sunlight and the shinning stars.
